Next Meeting – June 8th at 2pm.

The next meeting of Redditch History Society will take place on Monday 8th June at 2pm, in our usual venue, the Oasis Christian Centre, on the corner of Plymouth Road near Redditch Bus and Train Stations.

Our presentation this month has a decidedly grisly‑sounding theme — the sort of stark headline that could belong to a newspaper from recent years, or equally to a report from more than two centuries ago.

In fact, the case is a historical one, and very much in keeping with the interests of our members. We are delighted to welcome Emma Hancox, Worcestershire County Archaeologist with Explore the Past, the Archive and Archaeology Service based at The Hive in Worcester.

Emma will guide us through the intriguing story behind a human skeleton discovered in 2021, buried within an embankment of the former Worcester, Bromyard and Leominster Railway line to the west of Worcester. She will explain how archaeologists approach a project of this nature — from the moment of discovery, through scientific analysis, dating and research, and finally to archiving and reburial.

This promises to be an enthralling and fascinating afternoon, offering a rare glimpse into the painstaking processes that usually take place far from public view.

Please note: Emma’s presentation will include photographs of skeletal material.
